Terms of Service

Last updated: April 26, 2025

These Terms of Service govern your use of ExifX, a privacy-focused metadata removal tool operated by SFWeb. By accessing or using ExifX, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using ExifX, you confirm that:

  • You have read, understood, and agree to these Terms of Service.
  • You are legally allowed to use this service in your jurisdiction.
  • If you use ExifX on behalf of an organization, you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization.

2. Description of Service

ExifX provides an online utility for removing EXIF and other metadata from supported file types. The core service is currently offered free of charge and without registration, subject to technical limits such as file size, file count, and rate limits, which may change over time.

ExifX is provided "as is" and "as available" without any guarantee of uninterrupted or error-free operation.

3. Acceptable Use & User Responsibilities

You are responsible for how you use ExifX and for the files you upload. You agree that you will not:

  • Upload or process content that is illegal under applicable laws.
  • Use ExifX to distribute malware, spam, or harmful code.
  • Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or misuse the infrastructure, including automated scraping or abusive load.
  • Use the service in violation of third-party rights, including intellectual property or privacy rights.

You retain all rights to your files. ExifX does not claim ownership of the content you upload.

4. File Handling and Data Practices

Files you upload are processed solely to remove metadata and generate downloadable cleaned versions. Storage is temporary and limited to what is necessary to provide the service.

For a detailed explanation of how files, IP data, and analytics are handled, please review our Privacy Policy. In the event of any inconsistency between these Terms and the Privacy Policy regarding privacy matters, the Privacy Policy will govern.

5. No Warranty

ExifX is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Accuracy or completeness of metadata removal for every file type.
  • Fitness for a particular legal, regulatory, or compliance purpose.
  • Continuous availability, performance, or security beyond commercially reasonable measures.

You are responsible for verifying that metadata has been removed to your satisfaction before distributing files.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ExifX and SFWeb shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or reputation, arising from:

  • Your use or inability to use ExifX.
  • Any reliance on the results of metadata removal.
  • Unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data.

If liability cannot be fully excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for using ExifX during the preceding three (3) months, which for free users is $0.

7. Modifications, Limits, and Availability

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of ExifX at any time, including:

  • Adjusting free usage limits, supported file types, or technical constraints.
  • Introducing optional paid or "Pro" tiers with enhanced features.
  • Taking the service offline for maintenance, upgrades, or security reasons.

Where reasonable, we will aim to make changes in a way that respects existing users and maintains a privacy-first approach.

8. Third-Party Services and Links

ExifX may rely on third-party infrastructure (such as hosting, analytics, or CDNs) and may link to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or actions of those third parties. Your use of third-party services is at your own risk.

9. Termination of Access

We reserve the right to suspend or block access to ExifX, without prior notice, for any user who:

  • Violates these Terms or applicable law.
  • Abuses, attacks, or attempts to compromise the service or its infrastructure.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be handled in the competent courts located in Montreal, Quebec, where applicable.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example when adding features or responding to legal changes. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

Continued use of ExifX after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
